Introduction of the Action Plan

The year 2022, marks the 150th year anniversary of the arrival of Dr.George Leslie Mackay at Tamsui. Throughout one and a half centuries, the influences and impacts that prosper from the works of Dr.Mackay have deeply taken roots in the lands of Taiwan. And it is his spirit that will forever be remembered and celebrated by the Taiwanese people. It is our honor and goal to commemorate this legend and to spread the incredible things he has done for the region.

The Dr.Mackay website will be the main form of display in this project. When mentioning the word “modern”, we often think of the advanced internet and technologies. And because of this, we expect to provide another method to relative information through the establishment of this website. Although there are more professional websites that offer more in-depth information on the internet, we still hope to participate as the students of Tamkang high school.

Today, many activities are held to provide people an opportunity to experience and commemorate the works of Dr.Mackay. “Walk on the paths of the missionaries”, is an activity in which participants go through the areas where the missionaries used to go when they were spreading the gospel in rural areas. We hope to promote these kinds of activities to our friends, families, and people around the globe by sharing them on social media and our website.

Photographing and videotaping the spots in relation to Dr.Mackay. And use these gathered materials to construct a video dedicated to the commemoration. One other interesting activity is to re-shoot the old pictures and add new elements to them.

Through examining and researching different databases and document references, we will draw the footprints of Dr.Mackay’s mission path and construct a map dedicated to his works.

This year marks Mackay's 150th anniversary.

There are also many ways to commemorate Mackay in Taiwan and cultural relics.

There are many statues commemorating Mackay in Tamsui, for example, in 2001, just as the centenary of Mackay's death, the mayor of Tamsui town set up a bronze statue of Mackay in this place of Mackay Street, and also held a memorial service in front of the statue at that time. On the spot, it was also announced that June 2 of each year is Mackay Day, which is also the anniversary of Taiwan's first local government announcement, which can be said to be very meaningful, Taiwan not only set up statues but also held memorial meetings from time to time, but also made commemorative stamps that are expected to be released this year

Canada's Remembrance

In the Canadian side of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Director in Toronto, visited Oxford County Governor Larry Martin, together to discuss the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Mackay this year, there is also a donation of a bronze statue to Canada at Aletheia University in Taiwan, not only to raise the friendship between Taiwan and Canada but also to commemorate Mackay, it is expected that this year there will be a short film commemorating Mackay and stamps, as well as a monument to Mackay.

George Leslie Mackay

March 2022, marks the 150th anniversary since Dr.George Leslie Mackay first came to Taiwan. For one and a half century, his contributions in the religious, medical, and education fields have been impacting the lives of Taiwanese people. And to this day, these works Mackay had done still have major influences over the entire island of Taiwan.

During this important year of celebration, the communities and church organizations in the entire Tamsui region gathered together to commemorate this legend and to unite Taiwanese people through the celebrating activities of his spirits and love.

With deep connections to Mackay, we as the students of Tamkang High School, hope to participate in this event. Therefore, we decided to protect the culture Dr.Mackay formed through love and passion by putting together a website dedicated to him and keep passing on his spirits and God’s love.
